Summary of the scientific report

The aim of the proposed Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) is to deepen the knowledge on the deployment and provision of cloud-based services for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The workplan of the STSM was defined as follows:

  • Definition of the problem of discovery, selection and composition of cloud-based IoT services in the inherently distributed environment of clouds.
  • Examination of decentralized approaches (bio-inspired) that could be adopted for discovery, selection and composition of cloud-based IoT services.

During the grant period, a seminar was organised where I had an opportunity to present myself and my work followed by a discussion with the staff of the Department of Computer Science at CUT. Regular meetings were held with the research group throughout the visit with the aim of exchanging research ideas and organising further collaboration.
The obtained results and accomplishments of the STSM can be described as follows:

  • Establishment of a close scientific cooperation, which included both the exchange of knowledge and the subsequent collaboration.
  • Formulation of the problem of cloud-based IoT service compositions in multi-cloud environments.
  • Initial description of a bioinspired model for decentralized service discovery of cloud-based IoT service compositions in multi-cloud environments.

Personal notes

The STSM gave me the opportunity to collaborate and exchange knowledge with researchers from a different scientific field and deepen my knowledge on cloud computing. I would particularly like to thank Prof. Joanna Koł for the great hospitality during my stay, with regular meetings and valuable advice, as well as for the accomodation and the office I was provided with at the Department of Computer Science at CUT.
