Center for Technology Transfer of Cracow University of Technology is an entity specialized in boosting the dialogue between science and business. Its mission is to help scientific teams valorize and commercialize their research ideas and results. CTT is represented by 4 teams (International Projects, Operational Programmes, Commercializartion and Business relations). CTT offers strong administrative and financial management support to research teams in order to relief them from this burden and accelerate their participation in projects. We are willing to establishing new connections and collaborations during this COST event in order to assure better and smoother responses to possible projects invitations.

JakubKruszelnickiJakub Kruszelnicki is working in EU-funded projects since 2007 starting from collaboration with Cracow University of Technology. During his Master Studies (European Integration on UAB) he was involved in FP7 proposals development for GEDIME investigation group. After studies, the internship in European Institute of Public Administration has expanded his experience to other EC calls (EuropeAid). Since February 2010 he was working in LEITAT Technological Center as International Project Manager responsible for NMP area. After 2 years in LEITAT, in September 2011, Jakub was assigned as Responsible for International Projects to KIM SLU where he is in charge of International Projects managing ongoing European projects and looking for opportunities to join European consortia, as well as coordinating proposals for KIM. After establishing European Projects Office with 6 FP7 projects gained the responsibilities of Jakub have been extended from European to international scope assigning the role of opening new markets in Latin America (Mexico, Colombia, Argentina) as well as European (Eastern Europe). Starting from November 2014 Jakub has relocated to Cracow and assumed the charge of Director of Technology Transfer Centre of Cracow University of Technology, at the moment he is supervising staff of 30 persons divided into 3 teams: Commercialization, Structural Funds and Framework Programmes. Jesus Carretero, NESUS Cost Action Chair, Spain: “COST Action IC1305. Network for Sustainability in Ultrascale Computing Systems (NESUS)”

The NESUS COST Action has been created to establish an open research network targeting sustainable solutions for ultrascale computing systems. Ultrascale systems are envisioned as large-scale complex systems joining parallel and distributed computing systems that will be two to three orders of magnitude larger that today´s systems.
In an effort to cope with this systems, the NESUS Action aims at collaboratively rethinking the current basis of development of system software for scalable computing systems in order to pave the way towards a sustainable future scale growth by improving the coordination of efforts between complementary communities.

Cross fertilization among High Performance Computing (HPC), large scale distributed systems, and big data management is pursued to provide common activities in research topics such as sustainable software solutions (applications and system software stack), data management, energy efficiency, and resilience. Those efforts will be translated to applications amenable to ultra scale provided by institutions (academy and industry) members of the network. In this speech, NESUS COST action will be presented, together with some examples of the effort being made in the MPI area to enhance sustainability of ultrascale applications.

JesusCarreteroJesus Carretero is a Full Professor of Computer Architecture and Technology at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain), where he is responsible for that knowledge area since 2000. He is also Director of the Master in Administration and Management of Computer Systems, which he founded in 2004.

Siegfried Benkner, University of Vienna, Austria: “Recent and Future Activities in High-Performance Computing and Scientific Data Management”

In this talk we will provide an overview of recent and future activities at the Scientific Computing Research Group at the University of Vienna. Over the past 20 years the group has been working in the area of programming models and tools for parallel systems, with a recent focus on high-level programming approaches, runtime systems and automatic performance tuning for heterogeneous parallel systems. Another current strand of research is in the area of scientific data management where the group has developed a Cloud-based service infrastructure for accessing and integrating heterogeneous distributed data sources targeting Life Sciences applications. With the aim of bringing together Big Compute and Big Data, a future research focus is on adaptive execution strategies for real-time data analytics applications on current and emerging parallel systems.

SiegfriedBenknerSiegfried Benkner is a professor of Computer Science and the head of the Scientific Computing Research Group at the University of Vienna, Austria. His research interests include parallel and distributed computing, service-oriented software architectures, Grid and Cloud computing as well as languages, compilers and runtime systems for parallel and distributed systems. A major current research focuses is on programming support for heterogeneous many-core systems. Recently, Benkner’s group coordinated the European PEPPHER Project (Programmability and Performance Portability of Heterogeneous Many-Core Systems) and was involved in the European Autotune project (Automatic Online Tuning) and VPH-Share projects (Sharing for the Virtual Physiological Human). Dominik Skokowski, Kościuszko Institute, Poland: “Strategic Approach to Cybersecurity”

Cyberspace is a new dimension, in which all sectors – military, government, academia, business and industry – have to adapt to and function in. This creates great opportunities as well as great dangers. It is extremely important to approach this uncharted territory with a sound cybersecurity strategy. Technological solutions alone are not enough if decisionmakers don’t see its merits and understand the big picture. The Kościuszko Institute creates a platform of opinion exchange between Academia, Business and Public Sector, identifies their needs and ensures clear communication between them. Above all, The Kosciuszko Institute promotes strategic approach to cybersecurity.

DominikSkokowskiDominik Skokowski – Director of Partnerships at the Kosciuszko Institute – Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with business sector and academia. He has been involved in the Kosciuszko Institute’s projects spanning Energy & Climate as well as Cybersecurity research areas and involving local, national and international community. He has taken part in application and realization of many grant projects in Poland and EU.
