Summary of the scientific report

The blockchain is an immutable data structure in which you can append new data but you cannot neither modify nor remove old contents.
Although the most successful blockchain project is the Bitcoin, a currency system, blockchains today are also used for several other use cases
(e.g. tracking physical/digital assets and executing decentralized agreements called smart contracts).Blockchains are receiving a lot of attention by researchers belonging to different communities, since they are all interested in
measuring different aspects of the contained data. Researchers usually develop an own tool for extracting and analysing data from the blockchain.
However, the increasing size causes scalability issues that complicate those blockchain analysis requiring a fast evaluation of the current state.

My STMS lays the basis for the development of a blockchain query system that helps researchers interested in analysing blockchains.
The STSM was crucial for starting the collaboration between the two research groups involved and realising the first part of the project.

I also gave a seminar at the University of Stirling, presenting blockchain research topics and my STMS.
Since the topics discussed are interdisciplinary, my seminar opened new collaboration perspectives.

Personal notes

The stay was professionally organized by Dr Andrea Bracciali.
I have had my accomodation inside the campus with other visiting students and my working
place in the room together with other PhD students.
It was a valuable opportunity to make new friendships.Scotland is a beautiful country and scottish are very friendly people.

I would like to thank for the possibility of being awarded with the STSM Grant and
I am very grateful to Dr Andrea Bracciali for his hospitality.
